Chicago Bears Dominate NY Giants In NFL Preseason Tilt

The New York Giants weren’t the only losers in their NFL preseason game against the Chicago Bears. The Denver Broncos and their fans had to watch as their former franchise QB Jay Cutler carved up the Giants defense and think of what might have been. After a rough opening week, Cutler looked to be in regular season form and the Chicago Bears went on to win 17-3. Both teams are now 1-1 in NFL preseason action.

Cutler completed 8 of 13 passes for 121 yards, led drives of 80 and 92 yards and passed for a touchdown. After the game, he tried to maintain some perspective after hearing the criticism last week:

“It’s preseason. Everyone got a little excited last week when we didn’t produce but we looked OK tonight. There’s still room for improvement, so we’re going to go back to work. We’re coming together as an offense. We’re not quite there yet.”

“We’re kind of coming together, myself and the line, you know, with how I can move in the pocket, and when I can step up, when I can take off. It doesn’t happen overnight. We’ve got some new linemen, new receivers, a new quarterback. We’re all trying to figure it out.

Chicago’s new starting QB badly outplayed the Giants Eli Manning, who dismissed suggestions that the Giants struggled due to their short practice week:

“That’s no excuse. We were prepared and we looked at everything. We just didn’t execute. Too many negative plays.

The Bears have long prided themselves on their tenacious defense, and this game was no exception. They held the Giants to eleven first downs and left New York coach Tom Coughlin clueless for answers:

“We got beat. We have no excuses.”

The value of a solid passing game in Chicago should be obvious to any NFL fan”with the long absent passing threat, opposing defenses can no longer put 8 or 9 men in the box to stop the Bears productive rushing attack. This opens opportunities for the run game, and as any football strategist knows a productive rushing attack opens the field up for the passing attack.

The Giants continue their preseason slate hosting the New York Jets on Saturday. Chicago travels to Denver to face the Broncos on Sunday. New York begins the NFL regular season traveling to play the Washington Redskins on September 13th, while the Bears also start their schedule on the road playing against traditional rivals Green Bay.

Giants Use Wild Finish To Top Carolina In NFL Preseason Action

The NFL couldn’t have scripted a better ending to the first nationally televised Monday Night Football contest of the preseason. New York Giants rookie Tommie Hill returned a fumble 18 yards for a touchdown with 0:00 on the clock to break a deadlocked game and give his team a 24-17 victory over the Carolina Panthers in NFL preseason action at The Meadowlands.

Carolina’s fourth string QB Hunter Cantwell was in a position where he just had to take a knee and run out the clock on first and 10 from his eighteen yard line. Instead, he tried to throw a pass only to have his arm hit forcing a fumble. Hill grabbed the loose ball and headed to the endzone for the shockingly bizarre finish and a Giants victory.

Tommie Hill was in a state of shock as he spoke about his game winning touchdown return:

“I’ve never seen a game end like that, not that way. I’m just a rookie trying to make the team. Anything like that that helps the team win in turn helps me. It was just a fortunate situation and I made the most of it.”

Hill, an undrafted rookie out of Colorado State had already become a favorite of Giants fans due to his tenacious, high impact playmaking. His touchdown”the first hes scored since high school”will only help his efforts to make the NFL roster.

Carolina coach John Fox sounded bemused at his teams unusual loss:

“Kind of an interesting ending. Both sides have a lot of work, but we have time. We have three weeks to do it

Giants QB Eli Manning played only two series before the backups took over. Still, he put a positive spin on his short night of work:

“We ran the ball really well, hit a couple passes and we got a touchdown. That is always the goal. We did a nice job with it, so I thought we were effective as the first group.”

The Panthers will kick off the NFL regular season hosting the Philadelphia Eagles at home on Sunday, September 13th while the Giants will start their NFL campaign with a big divisional grudge match against the Washington Redskins.

Ways To Find Best Hotel Discounts

There are many people who don’t bother shopping around for hotel rooms when booking holiday accommodation, and instead opt to book the first room they find. They are unaware that by doing this they are probably paying more than they need to, and are denying themselves the chance to secure a cheap, discounted hotel room. If you spend a little time, and know where to look, you can find hotel rooms available for much lower prices than the first ones you come across. Let’s learn about some things you can do to ensure you get a great deal on your next hotel reservation.

When you start looking around for a cheap hotel room, the first thing to do is phone the hotel. This will allow you to speak with a hotel employee, and ask him or her about what special deals are currently available to travelers like yourself. It is important to know that due to the current global financial climate, the hotel industry is suffering along with individual people and families, and you should take advantage of this! Make sure you also ask if they are offering any special deals for specific groups of people, such as Senior Citizens, or families.

Another place to look for cheap hotel rooms and special prices is the Internet. There are some special booking websites that offer a discount on top of the usual rate charged by the hotel. These websites work out deals with hotels that sign up with them, and this allows them to offer big discounts. Here’s how it works: By advertising the hotel on the website, the hotel saves millions of dollars in advertising expenses, allowing the website to offer cheaper room prices. There are even sites available where you can personally choose how much you are willing to pay for a room.

One of these websites that allows you to choose the price you are willing to pay for a hotel room is Price-Line. When you are using this site, you don’t actually get told which hotel you are staying at until you have completed the transaction and paid. You will be placed in a well-known hotel, so if you are happy to be surprised, then this is an option you should consider, as you will save a lot of money. You are given some information before you book the room, helping you decide whether you want to make the reservation or not. This information includes the general area the hotel is in, and well as its rating.

When booking online, it is important to be wary of any deals that seem suspicious. If a deal seems to be too good to be true, it probably is! Make sure you do your research, as some hotel booking sites may charge hidden fees on top of your room rate that may not be clear to you. As long as you use common sense, and look at a variety of sources for information, you are sure to have a memorable and relaxing trip.

You can get 40% off a hotel, that is what we call Cheap Hotel Rates, it’s easy just visit Chris Linch’s homeshophotels.com.

Iron Chef Invades America

‘Iron Chef’ is a crazy Japanese import cooking game show that features accomplished chefs from around the world going head to head in a competition format that’s part Julia Child, part pro wrestling. Even non-foodies are drawn to the show for its sheer entertainment value.

The story behind the show goes something like this–there’s this rich dude, MC Kaga who summons the finest chefs in Japan to do battle in his kitchen stadium. Needless to say, a TV studio wouldn’t suffice for such a production: the kitchen stadium is in Kaga’s castle. Also in residence are three Iron Chefs, each representing a different type of cuisine (Chinese, French and Japanese).

The chefs just don’t pull out the best dishes from their repertoire–that would be too predictable. There’s a catch to the contest, and thats the fact that every dish must contain the theme ingredient which is kept a mystery until immediately before the contest begins. At that time, Kaga brings forth a heaping helping of whatever the current mystery ingredient is in a production of smoke and pyrotechnics. Sometimes the ingredient is something basic like tofu or apples, but it can also be something obscure like ox tail or some obscure shellfish.

At that point, the chefs have an hour to prepare a seven course meal, served to a discerning panel of B-List celebrities that usually include a couple of ‘TV Presenters’ and a ‘fortune teller’. The judges rate and discuss each course and declare a winner. Its a great honor to beat one of the Iron Chefs, though its no easy feat.

What really brings the show together is the announcin–”though I’m sure it loses something having been dubbed from Japanese. There’s a hysterical play by play announcer, an excitable color commentator, and an even more hyperactive sideline correspondent who will break in the commentary frequently with revelations such as observing that a chef is using fresh ginger in a dish or some similar piece of trivia. Apparently one of the announcers is a legit sumo wrestling announcer in Japan, making the strange juxtaposition between cooking shows and wrestling even more complete.

The dishes that the chefs come up with are always pretty amazing, creative and complex–if not always appetizing. Some of their creations look yummy, but a dessert with a compulsory use of carp isnt exactly my cup of green tea. Nonetheless, the creative process and intensity of the competitors is amazing. Even as challenging as this is, the requirement that a theme ingredient be used in every component of the meal really ups the ante.

The Food Network has recently begun production of a native grown version called ‘Iron Chef America’. It has a similar format, but really loses a lot from the inscrutable original.

Nuggets Top Blazers As Anthony Stars

Carmello Anthony scored 41 points and the Denver Nuggets used a second half comeback to give the Portland Trailblazers a rare 97-94 loss at their Rose Garden Arena home venue on Thursday night. The Blazers held a 67-62 lead heading into the final quarter but for the second time in as many games had trouble putting their opponent away. Brandon Roy led Portland with 30 points, and Greg Oden was the high rebounder for the home team with 9 boards. Portland is now 1-1 on the young NBA season, while Denver improved to 2-0.

NBA pointspread players who took Denver as +8 road underdogs enjoyed their outright victory and the ensuing payday. The Nuggets have covered the number in both of their victories this season, while Portland evened their ATS mark at 1-1. The’1 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 200. Portland has gone UNDER in both games this season while Denver evened their NBA totals mark at 1-1.

After the game, Anthony was happier about the victory than his personal offensive outburst:

“We came out here and stole the win. It wasn’t just an important win. It was a battle.”

Anthony made 7 of 9 shots from the floor and 9 of 10 free throws in the decisive fourth quarter run:

“My shots were going in. I was trying to attack. I got to the rim and the foul line.”

Portland’s Greg Oden was taking the loss hard, as he missed a couple of late game free throws that could have given the Blazers a lead:

“This is a tough one. I definitely stepped up there with confidence thinking I was going to hit both and it didn’t go that way. I put this loss on me. I need to step up and make those.”

Team leader Brandon Roy said that he’d give the Blazers’ big man a pep talk, stressing the fact that missed shots are just part of the game:

“The biggest thing is to let go. We all miss shots, you’ve got to forget about it.”

Roy also added that the choppy pace of the game with a lot of fouls called benefitted Denver playing in back-to-back games:

“I think it benefited them a bit more coming off a back-to-back. They were tired but anytime you slow the game down that much, it gives them a chance to recover.”

The Blazers will head to Texas for a rematch against the Houston Rockets on Halloween night. Portland beat the Rockets to open their NBA season. They’ll play at Oklahoma City on Sunday before returning home for a game at The Rose Garden against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. Denver will head back to ‘The Mile High City’ for a game against Memphis on Sunday before an east coast road trip with stops in Indiana and New Jersey early next week.

Dallas Comeback Foils Minnesota Preseason Perfection

For the first half of their NFL preseason contest against the Dallas Cowboys it looked like the Minnesota Vikings would wrap up exhibition play with a perfect record. After spotting Dallas the first 7 points of the game, the Vikings scored three unanswered touchdowns to head to the locker room at halftime with a 21-7 advantage. After the break, however, Dallas reserves took over the game and rallied with 28 second half points. When the smoke cleared, Dallas had beaten Minnesota 35-31.

Minnesota had been set as a -3 home favorite, so NFL bettors who favored the Cowboys cashed their tickets with the outright victory. The two offenses were working overtime, eventually putting a combined 66 points on the scoreboard sending the total OVER the posted 35′ number.

Despite the fact that the game didn’t count, Vikings coach Josh Childress wasnt happy that his team blew a big lead at home:

“At times it was embarrassing. I’ll end up putting that on myself, not having them ready to come out of the locker room at halftime. All the quarterbacks I’ve ever coached have some regard for the football and you can’t throw it to them.”

Sage Rosenfelds and John David Booty were the real targets of Chidress anger, with each throwing a second half interception that helped facilitate the Cowboys comeback. Tavaris Jackson played only a quarter and a half and didnt put up impressive numbers. Still, he didnt throw an interception and that may have been enough to secure one of the two roster spots behind Brett Favre. After the game, Jackson talked about his situation:

“I’d love to be here, it’s the only thing I know and I’ve been here for going on my fourth year. If I stay here, I’d love it. But I understand that it’s a business. I’m not going be mad or cry over spilled milk, I’m just going to move on.”

Rosenfelds accepted the blame for his interception:

“It always seems like you want to take back one play and I wish I could take that one back. It was just a bad play by me. I felt real comfortable out there and I thought I did a pretty good job executing the offense other than that one play. I’m going to keep firing and that’s what I did.

Dallas’ Pat Watkins may have earned a roster spot with his all around effort. Playing on defense and special teams, he made several key tackles, returned an interception for a touchdown and blocked a field goal. He said that text messages from well wishers served as motivation:

“I had a feeling like I was going to have a good game, and I had a couple people send me text messages with predictions. Someone predicted six tackles and an interception. Somebody else predicted eight tackles. So after that maybe I need more predictions to help me out.”

The Vikings will open the season on the road against the Cleveland Browns. Minnesota has been set as a -3 road favorite, with the O/U posted at 40. Dallas will start their 2009 NFL campaign on the road as well, playing at Tampa Bay. The Cowboys are a -4 road chalk in that contest, with the total set at 39.

Washington Shocks #3 USC With Late Field Goal

USC has won their big game against Ohio State twice in back to back years. Its the next game they have problems with. This year, it was the Washington Huskies who pulled the upset. The Huskies defense shut down the powerful Trojans offense, and Erik Folk kicked a 22 yard field goal with 3 seconds remaining to give Washington a 16-13 victory in Seattle. USC has now lost to an unranked team in each of the past four seasons.

College football betting enthusiasts who took the Huskies as a whopping +19 home underdog were rewarded with the outright victory. The pointspread triumph also went against Washington’s dismal ATS form in recent years”the Huskies were 8-19 ATS overall and 3-15 ATS in Pac 10 games over the past three seasons. The 29 combined points scored went well UNDER the posted total of 52. USC has now gone UNDER in 20 of their last 28 games overall, as well as 15 of their last 18 conference games.

USC was undone by a rare display of sloppy, undisciplined play much to the chagrin of coach Pete Carroll:

“We didn’t get any better from last week. I’m not doing a good enough job of making the points of how we win. We didn’t throw the ball very well today. It was obvious. We couldn’t get the ball down the field very much. We’ve rarely been in that situation.”

The Trojans played without QB Matt Barkley, who engineered the game winning drive against Ohio State last week. His backup, Aaron Corp, was held to 111 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. Corp, a sophomore making his first career start, gave this glum assessment of his performance:

“I felt I was prepared. I just didn’t execute.

After the contest running back Joe McNight, who ran for 100 yards and scored the Trojans only touchdown, observed that superior talent can be beaten by hard work:

“Washington wasn’t the better team. They just outplayed us. Clearly, we have superior athletes. But hard work beats athleticism any day.”

The Huskies are trying to clean up the mess left by Tyrone Willingham, and this was a step in the right direction for the program. Off of the Pac 10s first 0-12 season a year ago, the team is now under the mentorship of former BYU QB and USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian who was elated with the victory:

“It’s unbelievable. It’s a great moment for our program and hopefully sends a message of where we’re headed.”

Washington running back Jake Locker, who ran for a touchdown early in the game, was in a state of near disbelief:

“I can’t really describe it. It’s an amazing feeling to go through what all of us have gone through and to experience what everyone wants to experience when they play college football.”

USC will try to get back on the winning track at home against Washington State next week. They’ll then head up to Northern California for a tough rivalry game against the University of California on October 3rd and then enjoy a bye week before taking to the road again to play Notre Dame. Washington will play at Stanford next weekend.

Have All Kinds Of Books At The Tip Of Your Hands With The Kindle

It used to be that if you wanted lots of different books in your house that you either had to have a personal library or books all over the house. This is not the case anymore thanks to something called an eReader. One such device is the Kindle from Amazon. This lets you have your own personal library right in your hands. So what is it that makes the Kindle so special?

Well to start with the Kindle can save you lots of space. We all like to see great books on the shelves but if you have too many it can seriously clutter up the house. They can also take a lot of moving should you ever feel the need to move house.

But with the Kindle space is not an issue. With this neat little device which is the size of one book you can have store as many books as you like all in one place. How you ask? Simple all the books are in digital format.

The Kindle is great for when you are on vacation. You never have to worry about taking enough books to last for the duration of your vacation. You just download as many books as you want whenever you want them.

Normally you would be considering how many books you can fit into your already crowded suitcase, but not with the Kindle.

The choices of which book you take and which you leave are now non-existent. All you need to do is take the book sized eReader with you with all the books you need stored on the one device.

If you need to read certain passages again or want to find certain phrases then the Kindle search option will find them for you really quickly.

Reading with the Kindle is a far easier experience as you can even take notes when reading. If you wanted to write a paper on something you could research and make notes at the same time.
