Now is the most excellent time in history to be a movie connoisseur. It used to be that the only way you could see a celebrated movie was to visit the movie theater. Later video stores came on the scene but you had to go over there and many times the movies were out of stock. You also needed to worry about getting the motion picture back to the store in a timely manner or you had to pay a late fee. Even now when you can get movies in the mail, you still have to wait.

Basic – While things go askew throughout an armed forces work out, base captain Daly brings in Travolta, the best interrogator he ever had, to question the surviving members of the squad, whose tales don’t add up. Essentially a whodunit, this film keeps us guessing, as a good intrigue should. Cast includes John Travolta, Connie Nielsen, Samuel L. Jackson, Giovanni Ribisi, Tim Daly, Roselyn Sanchez, and Harry Connick. (2003 minutes,’95)

Say It Isn’t So – Pleasingly un-ambitious Klein falls for the new hairdresser in town Graham. They have consensual sex and then Klein finds out that Graham is his sister. It is a complete flop. Cast includes Heather Graham, Chris Klein, Orlando Jones, Sally Field, Richard Jenkins, John Rothman, Brent Briscoe, and Sarah Silverman. (96 minutes,’88)

The Accidental Tourist – This film tells the story of Macon Leary, who is listless after the loss of his son. This is compounded further when his wife decides to leave him because he will not snap out of it. With a divorce approaching he finds himself mixed up with a new woman, who is helping bring him back to life. Now his wife decides to have him back, and he is faced with more tough questions. William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Geena Davis, Amy Wright, and Bill Pullman star. (1988 Drama)

Forgetting Sarah Marshall – Here is a romantic comedy set in a beautiful resort in Hawaii. After being dumped by his girlfriend Sarah, he finally decides to go to Hawaii to get over the loss. Unfortunately, when he goes to check in at the resort, the first person he sees is Sarah, and of course her new boyfriend.

Cuba Crossing – Our lead man Stuart Whitman becomes mixed up in a plan to take out Fidel Castro. Filmed in Key West, Florida, and at minimum the landscape is pretty. Cast includes Stuart Whitman, Robert Vaughn, Caren Kaye, Raymond St. Jacques, Woody Strode, Sybil Danning, Albert Salmi, and Michael Gazzo. (90 minutes,’80)

Rampage – Pregnant Long Island housewife, not able to contend with married life escapes her spouse and picks up a simple minded football player on the street. Cast includes Michael Biehn, AIex McArthur, Robert Duvall, Marya Zimmet, Tom Aldredge, and Laurie Crewes. (97 minutes,’92)
